Last Updated: 10 July 2026
The Department of Defence (DoD) has announced multiple Secretary vacancies across South Africa through Public Service Vacancy Circular 24 of 2026, published by the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) on 10 July 2026. These permanent government positions are available in Potchefstroom, Wynberg, Pretoria, and Lyttelton, spanning several different units within the South African Military Health Service.
What makes this batch of vacancies particularly appealing is that they require only a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification, and no previous work experience is needed for any of them. This makes them an excellent opportunity for recent matriculants, school leavers, and first-time job seekers who are looking to begin a stable career in the public service without needing years of prior office experience to qualify.
Secretarial roles within government departments like the Department of Defence offer a practical entry point into public administration. While the day-to-day work focuses on supporting a Director’s office, these positions expose successful candidates to how government departments operate—from correspondence handling and meeting coordination to office administration and record management. This experience can provide a strong foundation for career growth within the Public Service.
These vacancies are spread across several military health units and headquarters, giving applicants the opportunity to apply for positions in different locations across South Africa. Whether you’re based in Pretoria, Potchefstroom, Wynberg, or nearby areas, these entry-level administrative roles offer valuable workplace experience while contributing to the smooth running of essential government services. Before applying, carefully check the reference number, location, and application email address for your preferred post, as each vacancy must be applied for separately.
